Sirtaki was founded to provide a set of structured classes to help individuals learn to dance specifically for Weddings, Christenings, Engagements and other Greek functions as well as on nights out, where more often than not, dancing will be key to the event.

We understand at Sirtaki, that it can often be a daunting experience knowing that you are expected to perform or even lead a multitude number of dances on your wedding day, with your guests, or be asked to get up and dance on a night out in front of all your friends, with an expectation to know exactly what you are doing.

At Sirtaki we aim to teach you the skills to become a confident Greek dancer and provide an extensive list of well known dances for your repertoire that we are confident you will no longer want to be the one who just watches. The basics of Greek dancing are not difficult, so take your first step into a journey that will live with you forever and enrol.

Our dance instructors have a mass of experience in Greek dancing, from weddings, taverna shows, social nights out, performances around the world and nationally, and have taught both privately and within previously founded groups.

Friends Jack Iacovou and Ziz Kakoulakis came to the simple conclusion that it was time to provide a simple, and friendly class environment, open to all with a passion to both learn and dance.

Teachers

Jack Iacovou (Instructor)

An enthusiast, performer, dancer, of both Modern Greek Dancing and Greek Folk Dancing. Jack has been Greek dancing from the age of 8, where he first began to perform on stage whilst at Greek School, and taught by a number of dance instructors over that period allowing him to develop a multitude of skills from a young age.

After his studies at University College London, he joined the Lyra Greek Dancers, a London based Semi Professional Folk Dance group and Instructed by Loulla & Mihallis Kiallas, he was admitted directly into the performing group in just 3 months of joining and spent 4 solid years within the performing group, with perfornances and experiences gained both Nationally and Internationally.

Jack also formed the Terpsichore Greek Dance Company for the local community in collaboration with his local church, offering a not for profit organisation and a healthy and vibrant dance class.

Throughout his dancing career, Jack, has also danced freelance for weddings, taverna's, government events, and has offered Private tuition over the years.

More recently, Jack appeared on 'Celebrity Come Dine with Me'.

In his spare time, Jack, plays Squash, Hockey, Models and partakes in Irish Dance classes, and works professionally as a Project manager within the IT and Telecommunications industy.

Jack is also a British Red Cross certified First Aider.

Ziz Kakoulakis (Instructor)

With over ten years dancing experience in Greek as well as Latin American dances, Ziz has been trained to performance level with the Lyra dance group. Now he has turned his interests to teaching, passing on some of the wealth of knowledge he has built up over the years.

With knowledge of some 140 different dances from all over mainland Greece the Islands and Cyprus, Ziz is extremely well adapted to all varieties of Greek dance and styles. With a love of Pontian dances Ziz will frequently visit Northern Greece to take part in dance seminars. Combining his interest in dance with amateur film making Ziz has also produced several popular online dance instruction videos.
